Hello BlissYogaSG Community! π As part of our BlissYogaSG community, I love sharing practical tips and insights to support children's focus, confidence and holistic well-being through yoga, mindfulness and purposeful play. One thing I've learnt from nearly a decade of working with children is that before we can teach, we need to engage. Whether we're teaching yoga, mindfulness or any other activity, if children aren't engaged and attentive, meaningful learning becomes much harder. Focus isn't something we can simply demand from children. We need to connect with their energy and create opportunities to develop it. One of my favourite ways of doing this in my Kids Yoga & Mindfulness classes is through purposeful play! And the best part? These games aren't limited to yoga sessions. They can also be used in schools or at home to help children settle and prepare for activities that require attention and concentration. This week on my Instagram, I shared 3 simple focus games that I regularly use in my classes. I thought I'd share them with you here too! 3 Simple Focus Games to Try With Children (Game link in the end)1. Stop, Jump & Clap π A fun movement-based game where children listen carefully and respond to different instructions. Supports listening, attention, impulse control and coordination. 2. Sound & Focus Challenge π Encourage children to listen mindfully to different sounds and notice what they hear. Supports auditory attention, mindful listening and concentration. 3. Quiet Challenge π€« Invite children to explore moments of stillness and silence in a gentle, age-appropriate way. Supports self-awareness, self-regulation and the ability to settle. But here's something I always emphasise when training kids yoga teachers: It's not just WHAT activities we teach, but WHY we choose them and HOW we teach them. When we understand the purpose behind an activity, we can use play more intentionally to support children's physical, emotional and social development. When people first look at a Kids Yoga Teacher Training, they often ask: βWhat will I learn?β Yoga poses?Breathing activities?Games?Mindfulness? Yes β all of that. But after years of training teachers, I believe the more important question is: What should you be able to DO by the end of the training? My goal is that you donβt simply walk away with a certificate. You should be able to walk into a room of children and actually know what to do. -To observe before immediately instructing. -To...
